Sponsored by the Georgia Supreme Court Committee on Justice for Children, and administered by the Georgia Public Defender Council, parentattorney.org is the home of the Parent Attorney Advocacy Committee and a resource center for Georgia attorneys who are actively engaged in the defense of parents in juvenile court dependency and termination of parental rights cases.

What Is PAAC?

PAAC is a member-run committee supplying resources and training for Georgia attorneys providing parent representation in Juvenile Courts. Recognizing that the purpose of the child welfare system is to ensure the protection of children and strengthen family, we believe parents have a fundamental interest in the care, custody, and control of their children.  Parent attorneys play a critical role in achieving good outcomes for children and families by protecting due process and statutory rights; presenting balanced information to judges; and promoting preservation of the family.

Who’s In PAAC?

PAAC membership is exclusive to members of the State Bar of Georgia who are or have been actively engaged in the defense of parents in juvenile court dependency and termination of parental rights cases.  Excluding employees of the Department of Human Resources, Members include solo practice attorneys; juvenile court judges, non-profit attorneys, law school professors, retired attorneys, pro bono attorneys, and public defenders.

What Does PAAC Do?

PAAC is working to ensure that every parent has quality representation in Georgia’s Juvenile Courts by building connections between local attorneys, sharing resources, and developing low-cost, comprehensive CLE programs specific to issues in parent representation.  PAAC’s strength is in its members.  Most members are solo practitioners, feeling isolated or under-resourced to challenge the usual way of doing business within the courts and against the Department.  But within PAAC, members are not alone and have full access to the combined strength of ideas, resources, skills and experience.

How Do I Become A Member?

PAAC membership is FREE, but exclusive to members of the State Bar of Georgia who are actively engaged in the defense of parents in juvenile court dependency and termination of parental rights cases.  To become a member of PAAC and be added to the listserv, complete the Membership Registration Form.  Upon review and approval, you will receive an email with additional instructions.
